Introducing SVN 360

It is an interactive training experience that literally brings you into the visitation setting to learn, reflect, process, develop and expand your supervised visitation skills. You will have the opportunity to see first hand how a visitation center functions, from funding to family services through hands on professional development.

How many are in a 360 class?

The class is limited to 12 individuals to assure that all students have space to ask questions, interact with faculty and truly be immersed in the 360 experience.

Cost and Accommodation:

Member only rate of $395.00 a person with a limit of 12 people per class. Hotel accommodations can be made via the SVN room block at the Hilton Garden Inn at a rate of 149.00 per night. Part of th Training will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn

What will be covered?

Intake, contracts and fees, documentation, record keeping, safety, family violence, staff hiring and training, community engagement, development, case review, termination and referrals. This will all be framed and grounded in SVN Standards of practice with actual visitation observation and guest speakers from law enforcement, the local judiciary and the SVN 360 faculty. Meet your Host Visitation Center

The Family Visitation Center (FVC) has been providing a safe setting for supervised family visitation in Sioux Falls since 2000. The Sioux Falls Child Protection Council noticed an increase in service providers across the South Dakota region offering a safe place for kids to visit their parents and other non-custodial adults.Rapidly growing needs in the region have positioned Family Visitation Center as a crucial regional provider of safe supervised visitations and exchanges. The number of hours of service has grown from 1,071 hours in 2001 to over 5,200 hours in 2017. In that time, more than 4,000 children have benefited from FVC efforts.Today Family Visitation Center is a regional and national leader in the field of safe supervised visitations and safe exchanges. FVC also travels over 10,000 miles each month transporting many of the children to and from their visit with an average of of 140 families served each month, the need and impact continues to grow. About FVC Visit Space:

FVC offers multiple child-friendly visitation rooms for families to spend time together. Each room is filled with games, toys, and comfortable furniture. Play a board or video game, watch a movie, make a craft, read a book, whatever you choose, there are plenty of activities for a fun and memorable experience.

Meanwhile, professional well trained staff monitor visits for physical and emotional safety. This monitoring, in most cases, occurs via a high tech video recording/monitoring station with clear, eagle eye view of the visitation rooms. You will have the opportunity to review this state of the art visitation option and ask questions about how FVC is able to successfully meet the needs of their families via technology.

Joining your SVN Staff team is the Local SVN 360 Faculty:

Luke Comeau is the Executive Director of the Family Visitation Center in Sioux Falls, SD, and also serves on the Board of Directors for SVN. Comeau leads one of the few standalone 501(c)3 visitation centers in the United States that serves both child welfare and family law cases. Comeau also has extensive history in professional training, board and staff development, and facility management. Luke holds a bachelor and master degrees from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA.

Joleen Thompson is the Director of Services for the Family Visitation Center in Sioux Falls, SD. In her role as Director of Services, Ms. Thompson directly oversees the programmatic implementation of visitation and exchange services for clients referred from child welfare or family law court cases. Thompson has an extensive work history as an Early Childhood director and administrator for Head Start services. Joleen holds a bachelors degree in elementary education.

Joining our Local SVN 360 Faculty are two current sitting judges who are well versed in supervised visitation due to their strong collaboration with the FVC.

The Honorable Douglas Hoffman is a judge in the Second Judicial Circuit in South Dakota. Hoffman was appointed to the bench by Governor Mike Rounds in August 2007, after the South Dakota Legislature funded a ninth seat on the court and was re-elected in 2014 for a term that expires in 2022.

The Honorable Larry Long is a judge and the former 29th Attorney General of the state of South Dakota. He was first elected Attorney General in 2002 and left office in 2009 to accept an appointment by Gov. Mike Rounds to a judgeship in the states Second Judicial District.

Transportation from the Hilton Garden Inn will be provided to and from the Family Visitation Center and if required, to any location for the training.
