Presenters:
Lynda Evans, Service Director
Tara Reid-Laframboise, Service Director
Brayden Supervision Services
This presentation will outline the core elements of our service over the past 30 years. What we have learned and what we have changed. Brayden is a neutral third party that provides safe, successful, child focused services. We will focus on some complex cases that have guided our practices. We supervise high risk families including those with accusations and/or sexual charges, substance use/mental health, and resist/refuse. Our service is provided in the home, community and in centre; the level of supervision is the same.
We will share how:
• We work closely with the courts to implement visitation orders and collaborate with child welfare agencies, judges, lawyers, the Office of the Children’s Lawyer (OCL), and mental health professionals. This collaboration is critical in ensure safety during supervised visits,
• We recognize the delicate nature of some of most of the cases. Each family receives a personalized approach that acknowledges their unique experiences and promotes safety, ensuring that the families needs are met while upholding a court order while being sensitive to the needs of the families.
• Our experiences with high-conflict cases have taught us lessons about the dynamics of family conflict and the importance of clear communication. We will share specific examples of cases that challenged us, along with strategies that worked—and those that did not—offering insights into best practices for managing difficult situations while remaining focused on child safety and well-being.
